About
Wendy’s life-long passion for fashion was born when her mother met a woman who was able to crochet outfits for her Ginny doll. Only eight years old at the time, Wendy would go over to the lady’s house to describe her fantasy ideas for how she wanted to dress her doll, picking out the colored yarns, and even designing purses and hats.
Years later, as a mom herself who was frustrated by the false ideal that Barbie dolls were presenting, she created her own doll, Trendy Wendy. The idea was to offer little girls a whimsical alternative to Barbie. She had multiple identities with interchangeable wigs for each one. There was Workout Wendy, Western Wendy, New Age Wendy, and New Romantic Wendy. Each “Wendy” had her own environment and array of quirky friends like Ill Jill and Gay Jay. The most fun part was that all the clothes and wigs were also to be made available for little girls to role play along with their doll. Also included with the purchase of the doll came a subscription to the Trendyville Times, a Newsletter that contained all sorts of age appropriate articles and fun things to do. A skin care line for children was also in the works. After a promising meeting with Mattel executives, it wasn’t long before they released their own versions of Wendy’s ideas.....first ones being Workout Barbie and Western Barbie. Oh well...
